Yinthway Children’s Books
Story books for kids in Burmese and EnglishYinthway Foundation’s mission to support the development of young children in Myanmar through the development of learning tools has led to the creation of a wide variety of children’s books. Most recently there has been a focus on books that will help kids work through the trauma caused by Cyclone Nargis.
Yinthway means “our beloved little children” in Burmese, and books are a great way to reach both the care-giver who is reading to the child, as well as to the child. Some great books have highlighted caring father figures and basic hygiene. There is also a series of books that are written and illustrated by kids from the International School of Yangon (ISY).
The sales section of the foundation is called Shwe Yon Galay which means “little golden rabbit” in Burmese. The shop is located in downtown Yangon behind the Bo Kyoke Market and the Thamada Hotel. The address is:
No. 39, Room (205), United Condo, Ahlanpya Pagoda Road, Dagon Township,Yangon, MyanmarPhone: (01) 384699
Responsible tourists like to stop by the store and buy some books to give as presents to kids they come across in their travels. This is a great way to help distribute these educational books to remote areas of Myanmar.
